Google just announced its first Nexus tablet, the Nexus 7. The specs are pretty much what we expected, including a 1280x800 LCD display, Tegra 3 SoC (probably T30L, we're clarifying on clocks). No word on RAM yet but we'll find out shortly - ed. it's 1 GB. Other features include a front facing camera, and all the requisite Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity. The Nexus 7 runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean which was just announced this morning.
Pricing for the Nexus 7 is $199 with a $25 credit for the Google Play store, along with a number of free titles from the market. The Nexus 7 will ship mid-July.
Update: Google just made the Nexus 7 play store device page, and product page live as well. Pricing is that rumored $199 for 8 GB, and $249 for 16 GB. There are a few more details here, including that 1 GB RAM, details about size, battery capacity, and mass, but no Tegra 3 clocks.
There are a number of Nexus 7 accessories posted as well, including a dark grey cover and charger.

This looks to be a kindle fire with the google play store, nexus updates (fast updates), better processor, and better screen but still a limited device like the kindle fire.zorxd - Wednesday, June 27, 2012 - link
If they can make a $200 7" tablet, pretty sure they can make a smaller phone with similar specs and price.Impulses - Wednesday, June 27, 2012 - link
Or an 8.9"-10" tablet that isn't more than twice as expensive. Seriously tho, $500+ tablets with mobile OS have always been a rip off... I bought a Transformer for $300 last year andastill feel like I overpaid a little, even tho I really like it. Apple has always charged a premium for hardware so whatever, but Samsung (and almost every other Android tablet OEM) charging $50-100 more than the likes of ASUS/Acer is really holding the market back, specially when ASUS has consistently had the better product anyway (albeit held back by distribution).sprockkets - Wednesday, June 27, 2012 - link
At $200 Amazon or Asus/Google are not making any money, but you notice the push about content on google play today :)syxbit - Wednesday, June 27, 2012 - link

You can get 32GB in both. So this device has a bigger screen, faster processor, and half the storage. All while attempting to be the delivery portal for Google Play. Smart move Google. Buy a couple movies - look - all full! And since there is no upgrading you will have to delete. Customers LOVE IT when they have to delete content they already paid for....
